Abstract Based on the newly added “Chemistry and Occupation” column in the compulsory new textbook of the People's Education Press, the paper presents a teaching design and implementation case of “industrial production of sulfuric acid”. Students are invited to play the role of “chemical engineer”, they conduct a discuss on a critical research topic, which is how to prepare sulfuric acid in chemical industry. After theoretically analyzing the procedure of sulfuric acid production, simulating the specific reaction to be used in actual production, and doing a field study of sulfuric acid production in chemical factories, students are expected to obtain more knowledge and also a better understanding of chemistry-related occupations and therefore develop interest in chemistry as a career orientation.
