Abstract A teaching experiment transformed from scientific research achievements: quantitative analysis of camphor and borneol in wild chrysanthemum using gas chromatography is recommended. It shows an integrated process in application analysis for undergraduates. Firstly, volatile oil of wild chrysanthemum was extracted through solvent extraction and water distillation simultaneously. Then quantitative analysis of camphor and borneol were conducted using capillary gas chromatography with subsequent internal standard curve method. The designed experiment could help students learn the method of sample pretreatment, principle of instrument and quantitative calibration model. In addition, it can arouse students' scientific research interests, inspire creative thinking and cultivate practical ability.
