Abstract Engineering chemistry is a characteristic and important chemistry course for undergraduates majoring in non-chemistry or chemical engineering, which is a bridge between chemistry and engineering technology, and an integral part of knowledge, ability and quality system of application-oriented undergraduates education. In the ever-changing and new period of history, engineering chemistry education is faced with the challenges of globalization, popularization and informationization. More importantly, the engineering chemistry course for freshmen plays a very important role in carrying out the fundamental task of establishing moral integrity in cultivation in colleges and universities. Textbook is the important carrier of education. The new era puts forward new challenges and requirements for the construction of engineering chemistry textbook. This paper introduces the exploration and practice of multi-dimensional and long-term construction of engineering chemistry teaching materials in Beijing Jiaotong University under the background of the new era.
