Abstract Ideological and political education is an important way for universities to play the role of morality construction and talent cultivation, and it is also an important starting point to improve the “San Quan” education. Chemistry is one of the fundamental research, which is of great significance to improve the innovation ability. Therefore, the premise of incorporate ideological and political education into the education of chemistry is curriculum construction. Nowadays, problems including imperfect education system and backward teaching level in ideological and political education, still exist in the introduction course of chemistry. In this paper, the construction of ideological and political education in chemistry was explored by practicing the introduction course of chemistry in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, in which the curriculum design and teaching methods was improved. By analyzing the significance and difficult issues of ideological and political education in chemistry course, a program was proposed to construct the introduction course, and an effective system of ideological and political education in chemistry teaching was established.
