Abstract It is requirement for the cultivation of contemporary innovative talents to construct innovative, high-level and challenging “golden course”. University chemistry is a basic course of non-chemical science and engineering majors in our university. Compared with mathematics and physics, students pay less attention to it, resulting in unsatisfactory teaching effect. In order to solve this problem, a student-oriented hybrid teaching mode is adopted. By setting basic, applied and innovative problems, students are guided to solve them to improve their active participation. The applied questions include the frontier of science and technology, professional application, social hot issues, etc., which can increase the depth and breadth of the content to stimulate students' interests in exploration. By designing experimental scheme and experimental test, students' innovative thinking can be cultivated. The cumulative method is adopted to evaluate the teaching effect, and the practice results show that the hybrid teaching mode can significantly improve the students' independent learning ability and interest, and improve the teaching effect.
