Abstract From the middle of the 20th century to the 21st century, the cases of paraquat poisoning draw people's attention gradually. The development course of paraquat from prosperity to decline reflects the tortuous road of pesticide development indirectly. In this paper, the development history, synthesis method, action mechanism, application and the banning process of paraquat are introduced comprehensively, which hope people evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of paraquat rationally in order to achieve green development of pesticides.
