Abstract Metal nanoclusters (MNCs) is composed by the metal core of hundreds atoms which is coated by a layer of complex. The structure of MNCs can be tuned at the atomic level. The small size, unique electron energy levels and large specific surface area enable MNCs to be applied widely in various fields. The definition, structure, performance, synthesis and application of MNCs in catalysis, biosensing, bioimaging, and oncotherapy are presented mainly based on the reports in reference about research focuses on CuNCs,AgNCs and AuNCs.
