Abstract In view of the problems existing in the specialty of chemical engineering and process characterized by salt manufacturing and chemical industry in Tianjin University of Science and Technology, we reformed the curriculum system, teaching practice and teacher team based on the demands of talent training for the transformation and upgrading of traditional salt chemical industry and the construction of new emerging engineering. A “chemical engineering+” curriculum system with multi-disciplinary integration has been established. A multi-dimensional practical teaching mode of virtual-real experiment, everyone doing design, and the combination of professional courses, scientific research projects and graduation thesis has been constructed. And a qualified teacher team with theory and engineering capabilities who are suitable for the emerging engineering education has been established. After nearly four years of exploration and practice, the specialty has made a series of achievements in first-class curriculum construction, teaching research and reform, and innovative practice of teachers and students. It greatly improved the students' ability to innovate and solve complex engineering problems, and cultivated a number of high-quality students with the engineering and technical in salt manufacturing and chemical industry.
