Abstract This paper establishes a new teaching mode of the curriculum of “Computational Chemistry and Application” which is suitable for cultivating innovative and high-quality talents under the construction of new engineering discipline. The new teaching mode is based on the core concept of “student-centered, teacher-led; theory as the basis, practice as the main line; education as the goal, ability as the target”. An optimized curriculum teaching system and a scientific and effective assessment method are established. Through the new teaching organization mode that integrates theory and practice, foundation and frontier, learning and research, the students’ research ability and innovative ability can be comprehensively improved. The designed new teaching mode integrates and crosses computer science, chemistry, engineering and other disciplines, highlight the characteristics of new engineering. The innovative and high-quality talents training system has been established to meet the needs of new engineering construction. The curriculum reform and construction have achieved remarkable success.
