Abstract Alkali metals can form four types of oxides depending on the type of oxygen anion, which are named as normal oxides, peroxides, superoxides and ozonides. Based on the literature, the preparation methods of these compounds are clarified and the thermodynamic analysis of their stability is carried out. Moreover, the special applications of some oxides are briefly introduced.
