Inspirations of High Chemistry Education in Chinese National Defense and Military Type Universities from French Engineer’s Education

Abstract Chemistry is a fundamental discipline in natural science,serving not only as the theoretical cornerstone for constructing modern engineering systems,but also as a critical force to promote technology innovation and industry upgrading.In the field of national defense and military,the distinctiveness of chemistry discipline is particularly prominent.It is highly combined with various technologies and research of new materials related to national defense,which decides its strategic significance in cultivating military talents.Compared with other types of universities in China,the national-defense and military type colleges and universities possess unique industry attribution and talent education missions.Their chemistry education systems must place greater emphasis on practical application and defense engineering field.However,the current structure and teaching modes of chemistry education in the national-defense and military type colleges and universities still largely resemble those of general universities,without distinctive differentiation.Therefore,there is an urgent need to establish a dedicated education mode tailored to the specific requirements of defense-related engineering field.The engineer’s education system in France with its unique training mode and outstanding educational achievements enjoys a global reputation,which offers valuable experiences for countries worldwide to draw upon.Taking the École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles de la Ville de Paris(ESPCI Paris) as an example,this work delves into its educational characteristics,and systematically compare it with the chemical education of a typical Chinese national defense and military type university,Northwestern Polytechnical University,in terms of talent cultivation modes,curriculum offerings and practical teaching from engineering education system in France,which aims to provide beneficial references for the reform and development of high chemistry education in Chinese national defense and military type universities,thereby contributing to the cultivation of high-quality chemistry talents for national defense.
