Abstract Ionones(including ionols) and damascenones(including damascones) are common monoterpenes widely found in many plants.They were widely used in food,daily chemicals,flavors and fragrances.Although the structures of these compounds are not particularly complicated,due to the similarity in structures and the complexity of the IUPAC nomenclature,there is a widespread confusion in both Chinese and English journals due to the lack of simplified naming method.Therefore,a method needs to be created to simplify the naming.This paper proposes a parent hydride ionane to simplify these compounds in a half-nomenclature way.The result is simple and intuitive,and it successfully solves the confusion and trouble in the naming of these compounds.
