Abstract This paper addresses the societal science issue of “the pros and cons of sodium dehydroacetate as a food additive”,designing and implementing teaching practices for this topic based on the Eilks teaching model. By guiding students to explore the topic from multiple perspectives: including structure,properties,functions,and societal impacts: the practice enhanced students’ critical thinking and decision-making abilities. The teaching practice demonstrates that this model helps students integrate disciplinary knowledge in real-world contexts and strengthen their sense of social responsibility,providing an effective pathway for developing core competencies.
