AbstractHigh School Chemistry Curriculum Standards (2017 Edition, Revised in 2020) and Compulsory Education Chemistry Curriculum Standards (2022 Edition) both explicitly demand the teaching of Socio-scientific Issues(SSI) in various aspects. However, the implementation of SSI teaching in actual classrooms is characterized by low implementation rates and low achievement rates in corresponding academic requirements. Therefore, this study aims to explore and address the challenges faced in the design and implementation of SSI, based on the improvement study of SSI conducted by the team of “experimental research project on implementation the chemistry curriculum standards” in Weifang, Shandong. At last, the study provides practical teaching methods and strategies for teachers.
