Abstract This paper studied the third question of the 31st Chinese Chemistry Olympiad, the calculation results showed that different critical values at which sediments could be observed may lead to different answers. It was found that the theoretical calculation was inconsistent with the experiment results. If the activity coefficient was taken into consideration, the theoretical results could be consistent with the experiment results.
