Abstract Zheng Zhenwen was a famous chemist, compiler and science educator in modern China. In the era of social upheaval and change, Zheng Zhenwen, who returned from studying abroad, enthusiastically devoted himself to the cause of science education in modern China, actively introduced western scientific achievements, compiled textbooks of science and chemistry, reviewed the Principles of Chemical Nomenclature to unify chemical nomenclature, and advocated the “Kasaijian style of learning” to revitalize the education in Fujian Province. As a pioneer of modern science education, Zheng Zhenwen always embraced the life interest of “science to save the country, education to save the country”, and in the long term of practical exploration, he built up the idea of science education which is compatible with science and art, and the integration of Chinese and western science. In the new era and new journey of building a strong educational country, contemporary science education can draw the contemporary value of Zheng’s science education practice and thought from the four dimensions of development trend, cultural pattern, value and talent orientation.
