Abstract Taking the experiment on the effect of solution pH on the color change of red cabbage as a starting point, this study transitions to an analysis of the preparation methods for red cabbage test strips and color charts, and further extends to a discussion on their storage conditions. It guides students to integrate multidisciplinary knowledge to solve practical problems and progressively experience the general process of scientific inquiry. Through hands-on practice and iterative innovation of designs, the application of the controlled variable method and visual colorimetry is emphasized. The study focuses on cultivating key competencies and higher-order thinking skills, helping students appreciate the complexity and dynamic nature of knowledge, achieve cognitive restructuring and internalization of competencies, and develop a sense of identity with and responsibility for the value of the discipline.
