Abstract  This paper introduces the studies of Gerhard Ertl,who is awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2007,in adsorption of hydrogen on metal surfaces,the mechanism of catalytic reaction in Haber-Bosch process for synthesis of ammonia,and the process of catalytic oxidation of CO.In addition,it analyzes the scientific and practical significance of the studies of Gerhard Ertl.
