Abstract  Recently,a 14-year ban on the manufacture and sale of disposable dinnerware made of plastic foam has been lifted by the National Development and Reform Commission(NDRC)of China. The news has sparked fierce debate in Chinese society.Plastic foam is also one of the most discussed topics in chemistry course, and therefore the lifting ban on plastic foam will apparently have an impact on chemistry teaching. In this paper, reasons on the lifting ban on disposable dinnerware made of plastic foam made by NDRC were explained based on its chemical production process, and some suggestions were also given for chemistry teaching.
