Abstract Three experiments of Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction of benzaldehyde with ketones such as acetone, 3-pentanone and cyclohexanone respectively were designed. Electronic effect and steric hindrance of ketones in Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction were discussed deeply and important knowledge points in organic chemistry textbook were reviewed through further comparative analysis of experimental results to assist teaching of organic chemistry.
