Abstract The relationship between chemical concept and problem representation of senior students has been studied based on the research results carried out at home and abroad. The chemical concept test was designed and held in seven schools chosen from various kinds in Jiangsu province, and the sampled students (honors, remedial) were chosen to accomplish the problem task with think-aloud method. The results suggest thatthe degree of students' grasping chemical concepts has a significant effect on the representation statistically while they solving chemical problem.
