Abstract Electrophilic addition is a typical reaction for alkenes which is important in undergraduate teaching and requires students to master skillfully. Several theories are involved in the reaction including reactive activity, regionselectivity, stereoselectivity and so on. However, in most textbooks, some of the discussions concerned with the stereoselectivity of electrophilic addition reactions of alkenes are not thorough enough to make the students understand,so that in this article, a systematic discussion was introduced, which would help students to comprehend this knowledge point.
