Abstract The experiment teaching ability is an important symbol of chemistry teachers' professional development. For pre-service chemistry teachers, explaining and thinking are important abilities in chemistry experiment teaching, and the exploring ability is the core. Experiment teaching ability can be achieved in processes of observation, practice and reflection. Experiment teaching, giving lectures, teaching competition, instructional probation and teaching practice are valid paths to form experiment teaching abilities for pre-service chemistry teachers.
