Abstract The sulphate determination in drinking water is a major experimental curriculum in physical and chemical hygienic detection. However, the experimental curriculum mainly focused on the standard method validation and instrument operation. The training for quality control of laboratory was neglected. This deficiency led to large error and worse quality control in students' experimental data. To cover this shortage, this work used the analysis method comparison to improve the experiment. The ion chromatography and turbidimetry were compared and evaluated from calibration curve, detection limit, precision and recovery. The results showed that ion chromatography significantly excelled the turbidimetry in the parameters of linearity range, detection limit, precision and recovery. It was the ideal results to serve as the quality control training in student experiment.
