Abstract In this popular science experiment, gutter oil and bentonite were used as the main raw materials to prepare decontamination soap through saponification reaction. The main purpose of this project includes simplifying the purification process of gutter oil, optimizing the formula of saponification reaction, beautifying the products, and enhancing the ornamental and interactive nature of the experiment. Further, the purification process of gutter oil, saponification phenomenon, and the chemical principles behind it were comprehensively and stereoscopically displayed to the public through different ways, including videos, brochures, and experiencing activities.
