Abstract Strengthening the energy recovery, optimizing the process parameters and improving the safety level in the rectification process are of great significance to the rectification production, which is the focus and difficulty of chemical engineering students, and also the focus of attention in the actual production. Based on the ethanol training equipment of Lanzhou Petrochemical Vocational and Technical University, this paper analyzes the problems such as unreasonable energy utilization and imperfect process, adopts Aspen Plus software for simulation and optimization, and applies hazard and operability analysis (HAZOP) to identify the safety risks. Some specific measures, such as changing the condensation mode on the top of the tower, strengthening the utilization of residual heat in the tower reactor, optimizing the feed position and increasing the interlock protection, have been implemented to transform it into a set of safe and energy-saving rectification device.
