Abstract  General chemistry course plays an important role in petroleum engineering undergraduate teaching. This paper discussed the educational methods of general chemistry taking "aqueous solution chemistry" as an example. Firstly, the teachers must establish complete knowledge system, and constantly apply it in each chapter, it would reinforce and extend students understanding of theories. Secondly, the theory teaching must be closely linked to the professional background of petroleum engineering, it would help students learn to analyze engineering questions with chemistry angle. The reform of teaching should be aimed at improving students' learning interests and ability to solve problems. The vivid teaching form and multi-angle examination have been proved to be an effective way to achieve this goal.
