Abstract Vanadium is a rare element and an essential metal element of human. The chemistry of vanadium with two hundred years history is briefly introduced herein. The emphasis of this paper is on the application of vanadium compounds in industry catalysis, secondary battery and the study on potential application on enzyme catalysis, anti-diabetes and anticancer drugs in medicine field.
