Abstract The third generation mechanical manufacturing technology, represented by surface integrity manufacture, can effectively prolong the service life of key components, and is an essential factor in realizing "the Strategic Plan of Made-in China 2025". In response to the demand on strengthening engineering education in colleges and universities raised by the Ministry of Education, the experimental and teaching plan for engineering materials proposes, designed and implemented the solid carburizing experiment that was closely related to surface integrity manufacture by integrating the factors of traditional teaching and experimental platform of metal heat treatment. This experiment has been well-received among teachers and students because it not only enriched the teaching contents but also displayed remarkable knowledge forwardness and operational safety.
