Abstract In this paper, a simple method based on smart phone photogrammetry was proposed for the measurement of contact angle. A smart phone with an attached close-up lens was used to get the photograph of the liquid drops on the solid surface, then the obtain pictures were measured and the contact angles were calculated. This simple and cheap method could be used to investigate the influence factors of contact angle, such as the surfactant and the hydrophility of the solid surface. By using this method, contact angle related experiments can be introduced in physical chemistry experiments, fine chemical engineering experiments and other courses to improve students' understanding of the concept of contact angles.
