Abstract  Under the premise of using the water sample prepared with potassium hydrogen phthalate and iron sulfate replaced by mercury sulfate, several factors such as the volume of water sample, the volume of potassium dichromate solution, the volume of sulfuric acid and heating reflux time are discussed and a number of experimental programs suitable for COD determination of teaching experiment are designed in the paper. Not only the purpose of experimental teaching can be achieved very well, but also the generation and discharge of toxic and harmful waste liquid can be reduced, the cost of experiment are greatly reduced. Therefore, it can be used as green teaching experiment scheme for COD measurement and generalized.
