Abstract According to the research on the development of the concept of iodine, Gay-Lussac first proposed the concept of iodine in 1813, but at that time the concept of iodine and elemental iodine was not clearly defined. Until Dalton's atomism, which gave iodine a new meaning, it was the first time that iodine atoms and iodine elements were combined. In the 1940 s, the discovery of iodine isotope perfected the concept of iodine element and formed the concept of modern iodine element. In chemistry education, students must realize that the development history of iodine concept is the development history of element concept, as well as the development history of scientific thought and scientific method.
