Abstract Molecular structure and intermolecular forces form a connecting link between macroscopic world and micro world. However, under the guidance of “emerging engineering”, chemistry teaching content should be concise in order to strengthen the application-oriented characteristic of specialty. According to the learning situation of engineering students in recent years, the mistaken and confused part about covalent theory, intermolecular forces and ionic polarization is discussed. The purpose is to make students better switch between the macro world and the micro world in the process of understanding the material world, and learn to predict or explain the properties and changes of matter. At the same time, the cultivation of chemical core quality and moral education quality is carried out.
