Abstract Electronic effects and steric effects are the basis of organic chemistry. In recent years, the proportion of this part of knowledge examined in the National Chemistry Olympiad competition has been on the rise. Therefore, this article uses questions from the National Chemistry Olympiad in recent years as examples to explain the test sites of electronic effects and steric effects in detail, which helps teachers who tutor chemistry competition understand the teaching standard and improve the understanding for chemistry competitions candidates.
