Abstract  Through two typical teaching cases of element compounds, i.e. “coal pollution and prevention” and “development and utilization of metal minerals”, this paper discusses how to put the learning of element compounds in a challenging problem situation, form a basic idea of problem solving, analyze and solve practical problems from a chemical perspective, and promote the development of students’ core literacy in chemistry.
