Abstract Taking the Grignard reaction in organic chemistry experiments as an example, this paper describes a teaching design devoted to training scientific research methods which was based on classical basic experiments. The training topics, such as literature reading, data-guided operation, problem exploration, and scientific writing, are integrated into the teaching design. It has realized the consolidation of students' experimental skills, training of scientific research methods, cultivation of scientific literacy, and establishment of scientific thinking.
