Abstract How do the outstanding scientists make significant findings and expand the scope and depth in a new research area? This question draws great attention from the researchers in science, science policy and science education.Based on data mining technology and archives reading on the scientific works in asymmetric synthesis, this paper presents the scientific concepts and aims network of the chemist Lixin Dai, and analysis how his research strategy promotes a cutting edge field in China and connects the global knowledge flow.
