Abstract The solubility parameter is one of the important criteria for the ability of a solvent to dissolve a polymer. It is used to judge the solubility of a polymer in a solvent. It is of great significance in polymer theory research, coating formulation design, and resin modification. Therefore, how to accurately determine the polymer solubility parameters is particularly important. There are many methods for polymer solubility determination, such as viscosity method, swelling method, turbidity titration method, and estimation method. This experiment uses the most classic turbidity titration method. The method uses chloroform as the solvent to determine the solubility parameters of polystyrene. Because chloroform is a precursor chemical, ethyl acetate with similar solubility parameters is used as the alternative solvent. The experiment proves that the same teaching purpose can still be achieved after replacing the solvent.
