Abstract Construction and performance measurement of planar solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) will be designed as a comprehensive experiment on materials science and engineering for undergraduate teaching, which contains anode, electrolyte, and cathode material preparation, experiment characterization, as well as performance testing based on the SOFC. Through reading literature review, establishing preparation route, synthesizing corresponding material, constructing SOFC, characterizing and testing, the college students can understand the common type of cathode/anode/electrolyte, synthesis and preparation, cell construction, and performance testing methods of SOFC. In the process of teaching design and implementation, taking active exploration of college students should be the main body and the guidance of teachers should be the assistance, so as to exercise students' abilities to search for literature, design experiments, and operate experiments, besides, to cultivate students' innovative consciousness, scientific exploration, and team work spirit.
