Abstract Socioscientific issues (SSI) teaching is a prominent concern in the implementation of “literature-based” chemistry education reform. By examining relevant literature from Scopus and WOS core databases, along with utilizing CiteSpace keyword analysis results, this paper provides a comprehensive review of the developmental trajectory of SSI teaching research in foreign countries at different stages. It explores various aspects including curriculum themes, value orientations, evaluation methods, and teaching concepts. Furthermore, it offers predictions regarding the future prospects of SSI teaching research in China while also proposing suggestions for exploring teaching practices that align with our national conditions.
