Abstract The solubility of metal sulfides in different concentrations of hydrochloric acid is calculated by employing the solubility product constant Ksp,the stability constant of chloride complexes Kf,and the activity coefficient γ.The accuracy of various activity coefficient formulas in concentrated hydrochloric acid is comparatively studied and verified. The acidity of sulfide solubility and its rules are verified and summarized from calculation results and experimental phenomena. The results show that CuS dissolves in 6 mol·L-1 hydrochloric acid,Cu2S,Ag2S and HgS dissolve in 12 mol·L-1 concentrated hydrochloric acid. When compiling textbooks, emphasis should be put on the timely update, arrangement and integration of traditional knowledge. In classroom teaching, different versions of textbooks should be comprehensively utilized to promote the understanding and application of knowledge.
