Abstract In response to the limitations of traditional instrumental analysis experimental teaching, which focuses on single instrument operation and verification experiments,a new teaching mode integrating virtual simulation experiments, real experiments, and Density Functional Theory(DFT) computationalsimulation has been designed. This mode systematically reformed the experiment titled“Analysis of the thermal degradation mechanism of benzoic acid using TG-IR coupled technology”.Students were guided to conduct virtual simulation experiments using a self-developed 3D virtual simulation system, perform real experiments with TG-IR coupled instruments to obtain data, and simultaneously employ DFT calculations to simulate the infrared spectra of reactants and potential intermediates, thereby exploring the thermal degradation mechanism of benzoic acid. This approach effectively integrates instrument operation, experimental phenomena, and theoretical explanations.Student feedback and comprehensive evaluations indicate that this mode significantly enhances students’ overall mastery of the technology and their learning autonomy. It facilitates a multi-level and comprehensive understanding of scientific problems, promotes the development of interdisciplinary thinking, and improves the ability to solve complex problems. This mode serves as a concrete example of the modernization of instrumental analysis experimental teaching and provides valuable experience for cultivating innovative talents by integrating information technology and computational science.
