Abstract Chitosan which also is called soluble chitin is obtained by deacetylation of chitin.The structural characteristics of chitosan make it have particular physical and chemical properties and biological activity.This paper introduces the structural characteristics and important chemical properties of chitosan,and the applications of its derivatives.
