Abstract  The synthesis of ethyl benzoate is an important content in organic chemistry experiment, the traditional judgment method to determine the end of reaction is to observe the phenomenon of water on the wall of reactor and the reaction time. However, the judgment can not accurately describe the extent of the reaction because it is qualitative rather than quantitative. In this paper, the internal standard method and external standard method of gas chromatography were utilized to monitor the reaction and determine the end of the reaction quantitatively. By using the modern scientific instruments, students can deeply understand the reaction principle, and develop a rigorous and serious scientific attitude, as well as improve their abilities of analyzing and solving problems.
