Abstract This paper made full use of the electronic effects to explain the orientation effects of the electrophilic substitution of a monosubstituted benzene. The electronic effects can not only illustrate the different orientation effects of various substituents, but also explain the different ratios of the ortho and para isomers formed by the same kind of substituents, which is difficult to explain with the commonly used resonance theory.
