Abstract A comprehensive research experiment involving the synthesis of a cadmium coordination polymer and its dye adsorption properties was introduced. The cadmium coordination polymer was synthesized from succinic acid, 1,4-bis (1H-imidazol-4-yl) benzene and cadmium nitrate tetrahydrate under solvothermal conditions. The structure of the coordination polymer was characterized by X-ray single crystal diffraction, X-ray powder diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, infrared spectroscopy, and its dye adsorption properties were also studied. The experiment integrates scientific research hotspots into basic experimental teaching, which not only consolidates students’ basic theoretical knowledge and improves their experimental skills, but also broadens students’ scientific horizons, strengthens their ability to analyze and solve problems independently. It is conducive to cultivating students’ innovative spirit and practical ability.
