Abstract Herein the construction and practice of molecular point group virtual laboratory (PGVL) is reported in molecule symmetry part of structural chemistry course, which is used to help students deeply understand and master the research methods and basic knowledge of molecular symmetry. The PGVL simulation experiment is constructed by web technology and supports the display and interaction of molecular models. Students could complete various symmetrical operations of molecules, point out symmetrical elements in molecular structure, deduce molecular point groups, and understand the relationship between molecular structure and properties. The application of PGVL platform in molecular symmetry could not only improve the practical teaching of molecular symmetry of structural chemistry, but also encourage students' interests in this field. PGVL enriches the teaching system in molecular symmetry of structural chemistry and achieves good teaching effect.
