Abstract In order to promote the effect of flipped classroom teaching of organic chemistry in colleges, an assistant teaching software system of organic chemistry based on mobile augmented reality technology is designed and implemented. The system is consist of an mobile client which can be used to observe compound molecules by AR mode and to browse all kinds of teaching resources by students, and a PC client for teachers to edit the knowledge system of teaching materials, to upload 3D models of compound molecules and multimedia resources. The system is applied to flipped classroom teaching and experiments are carried out to study its teaching effect from three aspects: achievement comparison, questionnaire survey and student interview. The results show that the use of the system plays a positive role in promoting students' interests in learning and achieves better teaching results in flipped classroom teaching. And this provides a demonstration and reference for the design and implementation of the teaching reform of the same type of courses in colleges and universities.
