Abstract This paper presented a novel organic comprehensive experiment on one-step synthesis of 1,5-benzodiazepine derivative via the reaction of 1,2-phenylenediamines, benzaldehyde and ethyl acetoacetate under the conditions of ice water bath, phosphotungstic acid as catalyst and ethanol as solvent. This method had the advantages of mild reaction conditions, simple operation, good yield, short reaction time, environment friendliness, especially avoiding isolating intermediates, showing the practical application of green chemistry in organic synthesis and reflecting the modern organic synthesis methods. In addition, it was a good way to cultivate innovative experiment ability of students.
