Abstract  This paper introduced and analyzed Mayow's experiment of determination of air composition in detail:Mayow used iron and dilute nitric acid to prepare nitric oxide, which was collected in flask placed upside down on the surface of water, and made it react with oxygen and water, in order to determine the oxygen in the air.
